China's aramid development status
China has started the research of meso-aramid technology since 1960s, but it has not reached the industrialization technology level because of the low level of overall chemical industry. Until 2004, Taihe New Material took the lead in industrializing meso-aramid in China, breaking the foreign monopoly, and now the domestic meso-aramid has a certain scale, with a production capacity of about 12,000 tons/year, of which Yantai Taihe has a production capacity of 7,000 tons/year, second only to DuPont.
In recent years, China's aramid producers have accelerated the layout of the aramid industry.
On November 23, 2019, significant progress was made in the localized para-aramid developed by Inner Mongolia Graphene Materials Research Institute in conjunction with Tsinghua University. After more than 3 months of commissioning operation from feeding to yarn collection, the production line of para-aramid with an annual output of 100 tons was successfully put into operation, and the technical indexes are expected to reach the international standard of similar products, and the second phase of 3,000 tons capacity is under construction.
It is understood that Sinochem International's 5,000 tons/year aramid project has started commissioning in November 2020, with an output of about 1,000 tons in the first half of 2021, mainly used in electronic communication, automotive lightweighting, human protection and other fields.
With the successive production of aramid projects of the above enterprises, the industrialization process of aramid in China will be further accelerated.
